When planning household holidays, I choose to visit destinations that are vibrant, worry-free and safe. It may come as a surprise that I consider New York City to be the ideal location.
Nestled conveniently between Madison and Fifth Avenues, we stay at the 4 Seasons Hotel New York, which my children quickly think about a home away from home. We explore, by foot, the local high-ends, museums and endless stores and feel like instant New Yorkers. When we arrive at the airport, we have a car service scheduled to choose us up near baggage claims.
We also prepare ahead and make sure child automobile seats, in the appropriate sizes, are included and installed correctly. However I suggest that you call and re-confirm your automobile seats the day before your flight and constantly check the setup yourself. For my household, the 4 Seasons Hotel New York is the perfect hub and metropolitan sanctuary.
Pei-designed lobby and my children delight in the warm welcome that they receive, complete with Beanie Children offered by the kind and diligent staff (Ty Warner, of Ty Inc., is the proprietor). As they whisk our luggage up to our room, we unwind and delight in lunch at the TY Lounge.
While it is always a reward to rush around a new hotel space having a look at the size of the shower and the grandness of the view, the Four Seasons always wins additional screeches with in-room deals with like fresh baked cookies, chocolate milk, favorite board games and kid-sized robes. Take a minute to prepare tomorrow's breakfast with space service.
We rise early and enjoy a delightful breakfast delivered by space service. Nurtured and all set to go, we check out the regional destinations. Remember to relax and do not over-do it. Setting a time to go back to the hotel is essential for a stress-free day. Before my daughters wilt, we return to the hotel at 1pm for lunch, naps and to unwind with a book, motion picture or iPad.
Everyone will be disappointed, worn out and miserable (especially mother and father). Here are my favorite recommendations of neighboring destinations that the entire family will enjoy: A sweet land cornucopia, brilliantly developed by Ralph Lauren's daughter Dylan. The store is a real-world Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory, providing every piece of sweet under the sun.
There are unlimited programs for families, from audio trips to workshops. Prepare for your see at home by checking out Jacqueline Preiss Weitzman's You Can't Take a Balloon into the Metropolitan Museum of Art with your younger kids or going to the museum's website to learn about the displays and play interactive video games.
Including all things Eloise, the spirit of Kay Thompson's iconic hotel-dweller comes alive at this rawther incredible pink store. The mirror-lined stage, total with dress-up box was a substantial hit with my little ladies and no go to would be total without a pretend party with Eloise in the dynamic Tea Space.
Creating Lasting Family Traditions in Local ActivitiesThe enchanted appearance on a child's face as they enter this store is invaluable. It is difficult not to share your child's enjoyment.
If you fulfill a carriage horse named Pickles, provide him our best. Okay, you may need to capture a taxi to take a trip to this destination, but the Broadway variation of this Disney classic is still a must-see.
